McDonald's Hamburger University, Hong Kong (HUHK), the 7th Hamburger
University in the world, was established in 2000 and serves as the
training and development center for the management in the Greater
China Region. Because of its rapid economic growth, the Greater
China Region that includes the Mainland China, Taiwan, Hong Kong,
and Macau is becoming the biggest potential market for McDonald's.
The establishment of a high standard training center in the Greater
China Region shall satisfy the demand of people development required
for its rapid expansion.
HUHK operates independently under the leadership of a
Director who also plays the role of the Dean. Together with
Training Managers, professors and Training Administrator recruited from Mainland
China, Taiwan and Hong Kong, the Dean is responsible for the day-to-day
operations of the HUHK.
HUHK enjoys strong market support; from time to time, the markets
will send subject experts, mostly department heads, as Visiting
Professors to enhance the learning of students. HUHK also has full
support of the functional teams from the headquarter of the McDonald's
China Development Company, such as Information Service, Human Resources,
PR and Accounting Department. Resources are leveraged as a result.
McDonald's Brand Mission is to be "Our customers' favorite
place and way to eat". People are the main resources for McDonald's
to achieve this mission. McDonald's has turned this belief into
a People Promise Philosophy - "we value you, your growth and
your contribution". It is a statement of McDonald's commitment
to its people. To provide McDonald's people with the greatest opportunity
to continue their career-long learning is an investment in the future
of the company. To fulfill that People Promise commitment, HUHK
has initiated the innovative learning alliances with the renowned
universities in the Greater China Region.
Accreditation of HUHK's programs by National Taiwan University (NTU)
was achieved in 2000. It was the first time in Greater China that
a university accredits corporate training programs. Another three
accreditations were attained from Hong Kong Polytechnic University
(HKPU), Peking University and Tsinghua University in 2001. HUHK's
programs have been recognized and validated as equivalent to the
academic standard and status of some of the courses in these renowned
universities.
The learning alliances between HUHK and these four top-notched universities
in the Greater China Region have enhanced the academic as well as
the business image of HUHK. Due to the achievement in building alliances
with universities, HUHK won the Corporate University Xchange Excellence
Awards sponsored by the Financial Times in 2001. HUHK was the only
non-American and overseas winner who had been awarded this distinction.
To ensure the teaching and learning standard, the four-level evaluation
method by Dr. Kirkpatrick is being used to evaluate the effectiveness
of our training programs. Feedback proves that the high quality
teaching and learning process of HUHK has exerted positive impact
on the performance of our people.
